Anderson Valley lured Valerie to Mendocino from the cover of Wine Spectator, while standing in a long line at a Whole Foods in Orange County, CA. Nestled between rolling hills of Oak, vineyards, redwoods and the California coastline is a unique community passionate about food & wine.
"I wanted to get back to a rural community where I could learn more about natural farming practices, natural building and even living off grid. The first week I arrived I went to the Not-so-Simple Living Fair in Boonville, CA. where community members share their rural skills throughout weekend workshops and "Mendocino local" is the focus.
Anderson Valley soon felt like home and I started sprouting roots by joining the local Farm to Fork organization called the AV Foodshed. I appreciate each of our local farmers and everyone in the county who is dedicated to producing their unique culinary products. Our winemakers capture the "characters" of the land in our AV artisan wines. Seasonal produce directly from the local farmer offers bolder flavors and a higher nutritional content. Pairing my passions for the origins of our food and the art of serving delicious menus inspire everything we offer at Culinary Origins."
Valerie's culinary career began serving at black tie events for a catering company in Palos Verdes, CA. Her passion for cooking lead her into the kitchen's of restaurants, catering companies and eventually, client kitchens as a Private Chef. Cooking for yacht charter guests on classic wooden boats through the San Juan Islands was one of the favorite "chapters" in her career. Private Chef clients have trusted Valerie to cater their life events at weddings, retreats and business gatherings.
A cancer diagnosis for a family member inspired Valerie to research nutritional healing alternatives, raw vegan cuisine and the origins of our food. Valerie incorporates her nutritional knowledge with her roots as a wood-fire grill chef to create menus that appeal to everyone on your guest list.
